Barcelona is an incredible city for tourists. I don’t think I’ve ever visited a city with so many things for visitors to see and do. It’s difficult to cram everything in so if possible I’d recommend at least 5 days to get about and see as much as possible.
If you don’t have a car hire then the city bus tour is a great option as you can hop on and off at your leisure and it stops at all major attractions. There are 3 different lines. The two day ticket offers the best value as you would have to get up very early to see everything in one day. It’s also a great way of getting to know your way around the city. Tickets are reasonably priced and the tour comes with audio commentary.
There are lots of options for Irish people wishing to visit Barcelona. Aer Lingus offer flights to Barcelona (BCN) Airport from Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and Belfast Int Airport. Ryanair offer flights from Dublin Airport to Barcelona (Girona) Airport as well as flights to Barcelona (Reus) from Dublin Airport.
Barcelona (BCN) is the main airport in Barcelona while the others mentioned above are used by Ryanair and are a bit further out. Car hire Girona and Car Hire Reus services are available at these airports.
It’s hard to know where to start with what to visit in Barcelona but you will find out pretty quickly that Gaudi is a very central figure in the city. La Sagrada Familia is certainly worthy of a visit. Gaudi House is another incredible architectural feat. An audio tour is offered here.
Many of you will be happy to know that Barcelona has 9 months of sunshine a year on offer. There are plenty of beaches within easy reach. The beaches a little further out are worth a spin in your hire car.
The world famous Barcelona football club offer tours where you can get pitch side as well as seeing the player’s dressing rooms. You can also explore the clubs museum which holds lots of club memorabilia from over the years.
Barcelona is littered with hundreds of tapas bars. There are lots of specialty dishes that must be tasted. Butifarra is a specialist sausage from the Catalan region which you will find on many tapas menus.
Barcelona Zoo is a fantastic spot to spend a few hours. It is a huge zoo with lots of animals to see as well as a dolphin show at certain hours of the day.
